This 23-year-old songwriter grew up in countryside of Ontario. “My sisters and I were never allowed to use the word bored growing up, so we learned to entertain ourselves since we didn’t live near the city, and well that’s when music came along.”
From the young age of 13, Mackinnon began playing guitar, singing and writing her own songs. Her first major exposure came at 18 when she was nominated at the Toronto International Music Awards as Best Young Songwriter by a panel of judges (including Juno-nominated singer- songwriter Jully Black) for her original song Remember Me.
The following year, Mackinnon placed as one of the Top 10 musicians for the worldwide Hard Rock Rising Contest in March of 2014, where she was flown to perform at the famous Hard Rock Cafe in the heart of downtown Toronto.
At the end of summer 2015 Mackinnon was contacted by Soul Surfer director-producer Sean McNamara to use her original song Espresso Kiss in the Hallmark feature film Just in Time for Christmas starring Eloise Mumford, William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd. The song has now generated over 230,000 streams online.
Vancouver has become home to Mackinnon, where she has been working with west coast writer-producers Winston Hauschild and Troy Samson on her upcoming record, set to be released early this summer of 2017. Her hit song Espresso Kiss was played across Canadian radio stations this past summer, where she performed and partook in interviews at stations across British Columbia and Ontario. Her album Savour is available worldwide June 13th and three of the songs can be heard in the upcoming Hallmark movie ‘The Perfect Bride.’
